Hi,
My name is Niclas Bergstrom.
I am Swedish. I am an Entrepreneur. That means I can just not stop doing things. It is a curse. It is fun. It is just wonderful.
I work at VoiceCorp, currently as CEO. This blog is actually owned by VoiceCorp so in any case I am somehow responsible for the content here. However I would like to point out that what I write here stands for me (or invited guest bloggers), and not necessarily for the company. Companies usually don’t blog. People do.
Never the less, I will write about what drives me and I am most passionate about. That would be pretty much all about Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Software as a Service (SaaS), Text-to-speech technology & applications, web accessibility and a bunch of more geeky things of the online world I seem to live in (after purchasing a Blackberry a year ago, offline is not a place I ordinarily visit).My philosophies about;
SaaS
It is better to let one person make a proper job installing the software on a server to let other people just use it.
Web accessibility
This is broad. It’s not about making the web working for people with disabilities, it is way to reach out to a maximum number of people, nondependent of device used, technology skills or abilities.
Entrepreneurship
Either you are or you not, or maybe you are but you just haven’t found out just yet.
TTS
Using text-to-speech technology is a way to free text from letters and words. It is just great for all occasions where reading is just not a good option. The quality of the speech is more about how bad you need it rather then how good it really speaks.
The last couple of years I have kept myself busy with, among other things;
1999 - Funded the Swedish development and innovation company Phoneticom AB (www.phoneticom.com) 2000 - Innovation 1 - Inventing world leading and many times award winning server based speech services for websites (ReadSpeaker) 2001 - Innovation 2 - Invented the first telephone voice based service for navigating and reading of website content. Innovation 3 - Invented the first telephone voice based service for listening to email. 2002 - Innovation 4 - Award winning server based Text-To-Speech engine (RemoteTTS/SpeechMachine). Founded TillTek (Swedish B2B company selling speaking web services in Scandinavia) . 2003 - Innovation 5 - Server based production system for Text-To-Speech narrated Digital Audio Talking books (DAISY Generator). Founded the company ReadSpeaker International Ltd (www.readspeaker.com). Innovation 6 - Automatic messaging service using TTS for telephones (Messenger). 2004 - Co-founded TIBO AB (Swedish web accessibility consultancy company). Innovation 7 - Automatic service that converts websites into text based version on-the-fly (TextWeb/wMorph). 2005 - Innovation 8 - Patent for Player Independent Audio Media Streaming (together with Fredrik Larsson – also at Phoneticom). Innovation 9 -Developing a personal web based text-to-speech service www.textaid.nu, 2006 - Innovation 10 - Automatic RSS to Podcast service for media companies (PodCaster). Founded my private comapny Storvreta web consultancy. 2007 - Developed FREE Automatic RSS to Podcast consumer service (AudioFeed - www.audiofeedcreator.com). 2008 - Co-founded the VoiceCorp group of companies. Innovation 11 - rSpeak the next generation speech services…
On the rear occasions when I am not working I like to; spend time with my great family, travel, go diving (PADI Rescue Diver), eat good food and drink good wine or practicing pistol precicion shooting.
